How to Use a Money Vision Board for Inspired Action

What is a money vision board? A money vision board is a motivational tool for reaching your financial goals.

I always thought vision boards were a bit bogus. That is until I actually created one.

I attended a workshop led by TruYou training. At first, I thought it would be a bunch of people sitting in a room, cutting out pictures from magazines and pasting them onto a piece of cardboard and then staring at our boards hoping our dreams come true. It sounded fun, but to be honest I wasn’t sure what to expect, or how it might help me.

OMG, it was amazing! Everything about the project and the workshop was great. It was not only the vision board, but the whole seminar was enlightening. In fact, the final vision board was only one piece of the process. I learned so much about myself, my mindset, my dreams. It was freaking awesome! I would highly recommend any of their offerings.

This post will focus on creating a money vision board, but don’t let that limit you. Use the tips and ideas to create whatever vision board you want.

What is a money vision board?

Let’s be honest, many of our dreams require money. I know some of you won’t want to admit it but, it is true. We need money and it is perfectly fine to like and want money. Money is not evil. How can it be? It is a “thing”.

If you have trouble accepting this then it may be an appropriate time to check in with your money mindset and ask yourself how you feel about money and why.

Creating a money vision board gives you an opportunity to recognize your desires and dreams and to get a grip on how you feel when you visualize them.

A money board is not about looking at a bunch of pictures and quotes in either physical or digital format and allowing money to just flow to you. It is about the inspired action you receive through the process of building the vision board and the ideas and feelings that you get every time you look at it.

What is inspired action?

There are basically three types of action:

  • No Action
  • Forced Action
  • Inspired Action

No action: This is waiting around for something to happen. If you’ve created a vision board and you look at it every day or don’t look at it all, and you are not doing anything to manifest what is on that board you won’t get very far. Just staring at pictures is not going to do it.

Forced Action Forced action is doing something because it needs to be done, not because you are inspired to do it. If you are spinning your wheels, or time is going slowly and you are just not in the groove, that is forced action. There is not a lot of joy or fulfillment when forcing yourself to do something.

Inspired action: This is an action that you cannot wait to do. In fact, sometimes you drop everything you are currently doing to get started. You receive inspired action when you are in alignment with yourself and your desires.

Do you ever get an impulse to try something or does that awesome idea just pops up in your head? Have you ever been doing something and time just flew by? That is inspired action. An inspired action is when you are in the zone.

A money vision board activates inspired action. The biggest game-changer and the greatest advantage for me was simply the process of creating it. Looking at it regularly brought the feelings back.

Creating a money vision board

Here are some steps that I found useful when creating my money vision board.

1. Get prepared

Set aside a few hours for the process. If you can swing a half-day or even a full day, that’s awesome. Create an environment that is comfortable for you to be open and honest with yourself and your true desires.

If you enjoy being around people then a group setting may work for you. However, if you prefer to create alone that is fine too.

2. Type of vision boards

Do you want to create a digital vision board or a physical vision board? Maybe you want to do both. It is really up to you. Below is a brief description of each.

Physical money vision board

The traditional physical board is nice when you have loads of magazines piled up. If flipping through the pages of a magazine is inspiring for you this might be a good option.

Some people love the process of actually touching the pictures, cutting them out, arranging them on the board just the right way, and pasting them. Physically writing on the board with colorful markers may be just the added creativity needed to receive some inspired action.

Digital money vision board

If you do not have magazine subscriptions or you prefer digital arts, a digital board is a good option. Do you like photography? This is an excellent opportunity to bring your photo-taking creativity into your board-making.

There are also many free online resources such as Canva that are pretty simple to use. They have stock photos for inspiration.

Another advantage to a digital version is that you can access it from your smartphone anytime. However, I suppose you can take a photo of your physical board as well.

3. Get started with your money vision board

set your intentions

The very first thing to do is to close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, and set your intentions. This is a money vision board so be sure to keep it around the financial aspect of your life.

It is not necessary to limit yourself to one intention. Have as many as you want but make sure they are your intentions and not those of anyone else. This money vision board is for you.

Try not to be too general. Saying I want a lot of money is pretty general. Be specific with why you want it and what you will do with it.

Your intentions can be anything such as debt-free living, a healthy savings account, an abundance of money to share with others, helping people with their money struggles, or reducing your anxiety with money. Maybe you want to buy a home, a car, go on a nice vacation, or whatever. Really, anything goes.

start creating

Your intentions are set and you are feeling excited to get started. It is time for creation.

One of the benefits of a money vision board comes from the process of creating it.

Let’s be real, it’s basically gathering up pictures and quotes and either pasting them onto a poster board or adding them to a digital collage. Pretty simple right? Right…so I am not going to elaborate on this. I’ll focus a bit more on how the process helps you align with your desires and learn about yourself.

As you flip through your old magazines or search online for inspirational photos and quotes check in with yourself.

What do you feel when you see these photos or read these words? Do you look at any pictures and think, “I could never get that?” Or, maybe you say “that looks awesome and I will one day have it”. Take the opportunity to discover your money mindset as well as your values.

Pick the items that speak to you. In addition to all of the feel-good pictures, I also choose items that represent something that I struggle with as a reminder of what I am working on. Choose what works for you.

As you cut the pictures out of the magazines or save the digital photos into your work of art, continue to notice your feelings.

Try not to make this a forced action. If you are trying too hard or struggling, then take a break and resume later. This is your inspirational board. Not feeling inspired? Put it away and resume when you are ready.

4. Your finished money vision board

Look at your board often. Remember, just looking at your money vision board will not make money fall from the sky and neatly land into your lap.

It is a tool that helps align you with the desires and values you discovered through the process and it opens your mind to receive inspired action that is necessary for manifestation.

Summary

Be mindful though your entire process of creating your money vision board. Although the board is something tangible that shows what you want, it is also a representation of the process you took to create the stream of desires inside of you.

Your board can be private or public. Share it with whomever you want. I thought about posting mine but I am fairly private so I opted not to. If you are interested, I will share it with you.
