How to Use Positive Money Affirmations for Financial Success

Incorporating positive money affirmations into your daily routine is a great way to maintain a healthy money mindset.

Positive money affirmations are feel-good statements about money. Repeating these statements can help overcome any negative thoughts you have about money.

In this post, I share what positive money affirmations are and how to create affirmations that work for you.

Definition of affirmation

To affirm something is to state that it is true.

When you repeatedly tell yourself something you will eventually believe it to be true, regardless if it is negative or positive.

I’ll share my story as an example.

At the age of eighteen, I moved out of my parent’s house and rented a room. Working a job that paid me just a little more than minimum wage and paying my own way through college, I managed to support myself financially.

I was very careful with my money. Spending wisely and staying on top of my transactions, I thought I was doing great. Well, I was doing great…at maintaining.

Every month when I reviewed my income and expenses and created my budget I told myself that I would be satisfied if I had just enough money for rent, food, school and bills.

And guess what? There was just enough money for rent, food, school and bills.

The problem?

There was never money left over to have any fun and I was not giving myself permission to have more money for future goals. There was just enough money for rent, food, school, and bills. I was getting what I asked for.

At some point, I picked up a book about positive thinking and it dawned on me that my thoughts were limiting me from any potential financial growth.

Telling myself I only needed a certain amount of money basically meant that I did not want or deserve more. Well, that was not true at all. I wanted and deserved more! But I didn’t say that to myself. Instead, I created my reality to affirm what I thought to be true, that I only needed just enough money for rent, food, school, and bills.

What next?

My self-talk changed immediately. Every day I reminded myself that I deserve money just the same as everyone else and more money would come to me through opportunities that I was now willing to see.

When I reviewed my finances each month I included categories of fun and savings and ended each review by repeating out loud that I would have more than enough money to pay for it all.

It didn’t take long for my brain to get the message, my actions changed, and my financial situation improved. See, what I was doing without realizing it was reciting positive money affirmations and you know what? It worked.

Create your positive money affirmations

For positive money affirmations to be beneficial they must mean something personal to you. First, take a look at your current money mindset to find your limiting beliefs. Once you are aware of your beliefs you can change them into positive money affirmations that will work for you.

A good place to start is with your current financial situation.

Review your savings, debt, and spending habits. How did you get to where you are? Are you an over-saver, meaning that you are always saving money but not enjoying life? Maybe you are a frequent shopper or are you frugal? Do you impulse buy or do you plan your purchases?

Get to know your money habits. Write them down and notice if there is a pattern of limiting beliefs.

Here are a few limiting beliefs to give you an idea:

  • My savings account will always be low
  • Debt is a way of life
  • I don’t deserve more money
  • Nobody will pay me more for my skills
  • I only have enough money to survive
  • Other people need money more than me
  • I cannot charge that much for my product/services
  • It’s greedy for me to want more money
  • I am happy just getting by

Once you have all your limiting beliefs written down, create your positive money affirmations. How do you do that? Turn those beliefs around. Write the opposite.

  • My savings account grows and there is unlimited potential
  • Debt Free is my way of life
  • I deserve money
  • My skills are worthy and I have the ability to sharpen them if I choose.
  • I have more than enough money to survive
  • There is an abundance of money available for everyone to enjoy.
  • My product/services are sensational and worthy of the price I set.
  • Financial abundance allows me to live a prosperous life and to give freely.
  • I am grateful for all the money in my life.

What to do with your positive money affirmations

Read your statements allowed over and over again How do you feel? If you don’t believe the statements, ask yourself why? Maybe you have more limiting beliefs to discover. Continue digging into your money mindset until you find the root of your limiting beliefs and are able to create useful positive money affirmations.

The exercise is meant to create statements that work for you. For some people, the process may take a while and that is okay because you must believe your positive statements in order for them to be effective. They must become part of who you are. Keep plugging away and adjusting until you have a list of positive money affirmations that lift you up.

Read your list daily. Put it in a place where you can see it often. Reciting your affirmations is training your brain to find ways to make those words become reality.

I don’t really know how it works, but it does.
